A weekend off {Canberra Family Photographer}

A couple of weekends ago I had a Saturday where I didn’t work, ~ not that doing photography is like working ~ anyway, I digress…

My son and I did soccer, lunch at Grandma and Grandpa’s, afternoon tea at Fyshwick Fruit and Veggie markets and we searched for 5 geocaches and found 4. At night we watched a very silly video… it was a fun day!

Sunday was much the same, big walk with the dog along Queanbeyan River, baked some cakes, trampolining, piano practise and vegging…

Sometimes as a single mum I find parenting intensive and tiring, especially at my age! August is always hard as Henry’s dad goes overseas for 5-6 weeks. By the end of August I am usually pretty stir crazy and definitely need some ME time!
Apart from the lack of ME time being a single parent, the other thing I miss is adult conversation, making joint decisions about our time, planning holidays and having another person help around the house, especially sharing chores or having someone else think about what to do for tea or make me a cuppa in the morning… So far I have trained Henry to fill the kettle and switch it on! haha! Im getting there!

Obligation and responsibility sometimes overwhelms me as I am sure any parent whether mums or dads together or not, feel. I always want what is best for my son and although he pushes me and can be quite stubborn I am very grateful that he sees us as a team. This weekend I said no iPad or Minecraft, not that he uses it that much, and although the adjustment period was fraught, it was a trouble free weekend. There was only one complaint of “Muuuuum, I’m boooored!” but thankfully for me he is pretty good at filling in time, especially if I ask him to clean his bedroom!!

Anyway, enough about me…. Henry and I started geocaching a while ago and he absolutely loves it!! You can find out more here: and download the app HERE: I can highly recommend it for all ages!!

Anyway, even though it was a quiet weekend and there were no playdates or sleepovers we did have a lovely time. Im sure at some stage he won’t want to spend time with his mum, so I am making the most of it.

However, when you have a weekend with your family and you don’t have to work, what do you like to do in the Canberra region? I’d love ideas that don’t necessarily cost anything, but tire out kids and are great fun…. Any ideas, PLEASE let me know!! …and if they are something boys like to do even better… LOVE to hear from you…
